Don’t Let Your Dog Grooming Prices Get Out of Hand

Dog Groomer Prices

Grooming your dog every month can run several hundred dollars per year especially if you take him for a monthly bath.  This can easily double when you have more than one pet, or in my case, triple with three Dachshunds. So, how can you save on your dog grooming prices?

Sometimes dog groomers will offer discounts when you have multiple dogs scheduled for grooming on the same day.  But if they don’t you can always try a different franchise or large pet store like PetSmart.

While PetSmart doesn’t offer discounts for multiple pets, you can save money each trip by using PetSmart Grooming Coupons.  The normal $10 grooming coupon is typically around a 50 percent discount for your second dog.  This of course depends on the breed and grooming requirements of your dog.

Groomers may also try to increase the price by trying to up sell you into a higher price package.  Be aware that those little extras like a preventative flea shampoo add up fast especially if your dog does not need it.

In most cases, your dog will simply need a bath, blow dry and a trim.  The usual nail trimming and expressing the anal glands should be part of the dog grooming prices. Anything beyond that is optional and usually not necessary.

You can also cut down the grooming costs by have a set of dog grooming brushes that remove the dead shedding hair that knots up and retains that “doggy smell.”  A daily brushing can extend the time between baths by several weeks and will save you a substantial amount of money in the long run.   It also will eliminate the dreaded buzz cut some long-haired dogs get to remove clumps of knots from inadequate brushing.

Taking your dog to the groomer does not have to cost you an arm and a leg.  Look for and ask your groomer for discounts especially if you have multiple pets.  Be aware that there are grooming coupons you can use and stick to the basic grooming packages.  Make a habit of brushing your dog everyday because both your dog and your pocketbook will love it.
